Green roof MobiRoof: How to install the elements and maintain them sustainably

Installation of MobiRoof: A green roof within reach
The ready-to-use green roof system MobiRoof consists of a plant cassette filled with substrate and six to eight different types of sedum. The cassettes are simply placed next to each other, creating a green roof in no time at all.
Technical information
The external dimensions of the cassettes are 50 x 50 x 6 cm (=0.25 m²). 4 cassettes are required for 1 m² of green roof. The cassette is filled with a substrate that, in addition to its function as a nutrient medium, also ensures drainage and storage of water. The water storage capacity is approx. 20 liters per m². The capacity can be increased by applying a drainage layer under the cassette.
Recommendations for use
- The MobiRoof system can be used on both flat roofs and roofs with a slight slope (up to about 20% or 10°). MobiRoof can be installed without any additional equipment. It can be used on roofs with a greater slope, but then a safety device should be used, such as an L-profile.
- If the roof covering does not provide root protection, a root barrier made of water-permeable foil should first be installed.
- The cassettes can be divided at intervals of 25 cm across the webs, for which a saw can be used.
- Gravel should be piled up on the outside of the roof, around skylights and drains, to positively influence the microclimate and to avoid unfavorable wind effects under the cassettes.

How to keep your green roof fit
MobiRoof requires very little maintenance. Pruning and fertilizing once a year is sufficient. Irrigation is generally not necessary in German climates. However, irrigation is necessary in extreme dry periods (>4 weeks).
Care
Care should be carried out once or twice a year:
- general control
- Fertilize with sedum fertilizer in spring
- Cut dead plants, often from mid-September onwards, whereby the green cuttings of the finer plants can be left on the roof and the cuttings of the coarser ones should be removed.
